  • What people must think!

What is unusual about a lone kite flier racing down the beach to stop 2.5 metres of very expensive material impaling itself on barbed-wire?

    Exactly!

    Nothing unusual about that .....?

Actually, its great to see people interested in something. No one would ever think of just coming up to have a chat while walking along the beach usually, but carry 2.5 metres of Flexifoil and people are intrigued (Or perhaps just generally scared) with the sheer power generated from such a thing!

Interesting times today as one more mature lady (And her daughter, I presume!) approached and asked if I was okay and needed any help! They had originally thought my Flexifoil Bullet was a body lying in the sand, and apparently it looked as though I was trying to recussitate it!

    Actually,

I was trying to stop it blowing away whilst untangling the bridle!

Great flying today, which included being dragged along on my face in the sand. Tasty morcells!

  • Crashed out!

It was the first, warm, sunny day with a gentle breeze for a while!

Time to get the Bullet out of it's pack and give it an airing! Arrived at Druridge Bay early in the morning. First hitch to get over was the unsightly tangle that the kite had managed t0o inflict upon itself within a tight rucksack, in transit!

Lines detangled, time to launch ....... Or crash into the sea. Susequently launched and crashed 3 times so far as so, that the leading edge technology ended up not leading at all, rather it filled up with sand and water.

    Flying ceased.

An hour later the kite had dried out and de-sanded. Time to move up-coast seeing as the tide had come in! Destination - Alnmouth.

Kite set up, then lots of people came!!!! Grrrrr!

Relocated to Warkworth beach. Lots of children with buckets and spades! No room to fly!

Relocated to Cresswell. Got some air, crashed into the sea, twice. kite got incredibly tangled, and nearly chewed by an inquisitive dog. Apparently kite is guaranteed against cannine intrusion. Must be through experience!

Provided a good afternoon'e entertainment for holidaymakers though!

  • A Nice Day Out ...

Well, it transpires that due to watching the kiteboarder at Druridge Bay, I actually bought one!

The guys at Northern Freestyle were ever so helpful, and sold myself and a mate a couple of Flexifoil bullets!

Shame the northern winds meant that it was too gusty to fly. Grrrr!

We ended up on Druridge Bay flying Buzzes instead! Hold onto your hats, guys!

  • I want to be a kiteboarder!

Gliding across the sand, only the wind directing the kite and board, the gleaming sun striking the water, baking in the heat of the North-East sunshine.

Shame I'm talking about the guy who first inspired me to kiteboard, rather than from personal experience. He made it look so easy!

When I say he inspired me to take up kiteboarding, I mean that in a rather round-a-bout way! I didn't exactly speak to him.... It was more of a "Oh, that looks great, I want to do that!" kinda experience.

So .... 2 days later I find myself in the local? power-kite shop trying to get kitted out!
